November 2020

The end of the bowls year is upon us and we're getting ready for 2021. Social bowls is still going unbelievably well, especially for this time of year. 17 or 18 rinks are occurring regularly on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, which is around 70 players, whilst the afternoons are seeing between 30 - 40 players.  Wednesday night has had 7 rinks and 6 rinks respectively for the first two sessions. This should pick up post Christmas, when premier league players will be taking part and so we will be looking at close to two full greens. Saturday mornings has slipped off a bit with tournaments on the weekends but will continue to give our working bowlers the option of playing Saturday mornings.

The Mid Week challenge wrapped up with our “White” division team finishing third - a great effort by the team playing against some of the top bowlers on the Gold Coast.  The “Red” team just missed out on the play-offs, coming second in their group.

We have established a recruiting and retention scheme to help retain key players at the club and attract players in the future to represent the Broadbeach Bulls. To date we have 77 names on the board for Premier league, Premier 7s and Summer 9s and expect this to rise to over 110 names, which would be the most ever at the Club. This is great news as it means we are attracting new players to the club and can be confident of a strong representative season at the start of 2021.

Presentation night is on 7 December and we will be looking for a great turnout to celebrate the achievements of 2020 and look forward to the 2021 season. The B Grade Singles and Pairs are wrapping up - congratulations to Petrina Wood-Bradley on winning the B Grade Ladies Singles. Dates are up for the Major Fours, Pairs and Singles for next year, which gives everyone at least 2 months’ notice on dates (it is important to run these events as tournaments).

Great atmosphere at the club on Sundays and to keep everyone playing top bowls during the Premier League season.

Barefoot Bowls is as busy as ever at the club with the club hosting 400 barefoot bowlers each Saturday, which is great for the club's income. However, we must remain vigilant and protect the greens, especially those coming out of renovation during this barefoot season.

The club has four players in the Top 10 in the Bowls Australia Rankings.  Well done to CASS MILLERICK #1 in Australia.  KATELYN INCH #4, SEAN INGHAM #4 and KEVIN ANDERSON #5 - great exposure for the club.

21 December we must put in our Premier 7’s teams so a selection meeting will occur early December to get a good outline of teams and how many teams the club will enter in each competition.
