16 June 2021
Jump into June with a huge month of bowls competition - Australian Open, Blue Diamond Pairs and the Warm Up Pairs event.
It has been a busy month for bowls with the Australian Open, Blue Diamond Pairs and the Warm Up Pairs event. The Blue Diamond went very well with 56 of the best teams in Australia competing. Peter Taylor and Michael Anderson won the event with Sam Chapman and Matt Sargeant running second. The Warm Up Pairs took the place of the Blue Opal which had to be cancelled due to Covid. We had 56 teams play and the day ran very well.
The Australian Open has been a great success so far. A lot of compliments on how well run the event was at Broadbeach. A big thank you to Christina Pavlov, Dennis Margan & Peter Lambert but their time on the cards and organizing umpired and markers. A big thank you to all volunteers who helped make the event a success.
We will have 6 divisions in the men’s pennant. We have divisions 1, 2, 3, 5, 9 and 10, comprising 72 players. The men’s pennant starts 10 July with the ladies pennant starting 3 July. We have two divisions in the ladies, divisions 1 & 2.
Social bowls was running very well before the Australian Open and should continue in a similar vein throughout the Winter months.
The Blue Ribbon pairs is already full with 56 teams entered for 15 and 16 August.
The greens are running very well with lots of compliments from the Australian Open competitors. We will have to protect the greens a little bit leading into the 5-a-Side and “The Nationals” in October.
